The word is that within a year or two, Apple may completely kill 32-bit apps from running on OS X machines. So, being as my PPC Mac emulator -- called SheepShaver -- is a 32-bit app, very recently, I set up a new environment, so that even after Apple kills 32-bit apps, my BBS and Hotline server will still be chugging along inside 32-bit. An iMac computer can run into disk troubles that make it impossible to boot from the hard drive. If this happens, it is possible to boot your iMac from a CD, as long as you have a bootable CD that can fix your iMac. While all iMacs come with the installation software as bootable DVDs, it is ideal to have a backup version just in case. First I should point out that this is a very geeky thing and a dvd will boot much slower than a usb. So if you want a faster boot it would be better to make a bootable usb instead for which instructions are here: Nevertheless some people want to have a bootable dvd too. Click to expand. As I said before this thread is for instructions for a Sierra dvd ONLY. Not for other systems. Others have tried to extend this over to High Sierra without success, e.g. Android studio sdk for mac. In this thread: I personally have wasted several DVDs and blurays trying to make a bootable disk for High Sierra with several methods to no avail. I'm not sure it is possible for High Sierra. We may have come to the end of the road as far as this sort of thing is concerned. I'm just glad I was able to make bootable dvds for Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite, El Capitan and Sierra. It has progressively become more and more difficult to do so though with each release, especially after Mountain Lion. ![]() Maybe I'm wrong and someone can come up with a working solution for High Sierra. If so then it would be more appropriate to post the solution into br0adband's thread, rather than this one because that thread is specifically for a bootable iso for High Sierra. Several other methods are also suggested on github, but these don't work either yet to make a bootable dvd or bluray for High Sierra (including the one posted there today, which although gives a bootable iso, it doesn’t boot a dvd - for computers formatted as apfs - although it did boot for computers formatted as hfs+).
